The USS Voyager stops at a trading station before entering the Necrid Expanse. This forbidding region of space is deeply mysterious and they must prepare well before crossing it. On the station, Neelix runs into an old Talaxian buddy who has hit hard times and needs Neelix's help.

Alter Ego

A distracted Harry Kim goes to seek advice from Tuvok. The ensign explains that he has fallen in love with a holodeck lady and requires Vulcan techniques to help it pass. Tuvok agrees to assist but, when faced with the computer generated character, he has to admit she is rather "intriguing".
